How Financial Literacy Affects Your Income, Debt and Wealth Levels

How Financial Literacy Affects Your Income, Debt and Wealth Levels

Chloe Harris - Featured writer

Financial literacy is understanding money: how it’s earned, spent, and grown. It also extends on how money is used to help others. Research indicates that financial literacy has a critical correlation to income, debt, wealth accumulation, and retirement planning.

Credit Capital’s senior credit advisor, Alistaire Claire, emphasises its importance,” Learning and applying basic finance concepts in your everyday life is the way to financial security. Without the right knowledge, it’s easy to commit huge financial mistakes. It is through lack of financial literacy that people fall for fraud investment schemes and credit card debts. Just knowing the basics can provide you with a level of protection.”

CottonInfo e-news: Three new options to control ratoons

Cotton Info E News

Effective crop destruction is an important part of the management of a Bollgard 3 system.

Ratoon cotton poses a resistance risk as it extends the amount of time Helicoverpa are exposed to the toxins contained in Bt cotton outside of the cotton growing season. Ratoon cotton is a host for pests and diseases. Pests such as aphids, silverleaf whitefly and mealybug can use ratoon cotton to survive over winter and re infest the following cotton crop. Ratoon cotton can also carryover disease such as verticillium wilt, black root rot and fusarium wilt. In other crops and subsequent cotton crops, ratoon cotton is considered a weed and can affect yield through plant competition.

My community loved Dad until he retired from football and needed a job

My community loved Dad until he retired from football and needed a job

The Guardian

My dad and his family grew up in a tin humpy on the banks of the Namoi River in Walgett, New South Wales. My grandmother worked on a station, raising the station manager’s children, and never received her pay during her lifetime.

Growing up my father was denied an education and instead given a football; he left school at 15 and later in life was drafted with five other Aboriginal men to play rugby league for the Gundagai Tigers. That year Gundagai saw their first grand final win. Gundagai loved Dad until he retired from football and needed a job.

My journey towards becoming a business owner started standing on the Gundagai overpass, waving goodbye to my father as he hitchhiked for work, as no one wanted to employ an Aboriginal.

Roys Roundup

Roys Roundup

Hi Folks,

I hope this Round-Up finds you well. It’s been a very full two weeks, I have been in Walgett a couple of times, Bourke, Nyngan, Carinda, Warren and even managed a stop off for a good lunch at the Nevertire Hotel.

As I write this I am in Argent St Broken Hill, preparing for very full days at the Western Division Conference that has an agenda packed with Ministers and Shadow Ministers and Mayors and Councillors from across western NSW. It’s a great chance for Ministers and Shadow Ministers to understand what is happening in western Councils.

Roy’s Roundup

Roy’s Roundup

Hi Folks,

A belated Happy Easter! I hope you all got some time with family or friends, and spent time doing things that brings you happiness and contentment.

The floods in Sydney, Moree and the Coast have been devastating. There is no getting away from the property damage and economic cost of this incident. The good news for us is that rainfall in our own catchment and flows out of Queensland should see some of the best river flows in years. Well over 500GL should hit Menindee, it’s my priority that water is retained in Menindee to protect the lower Darling for as long as possible. I have asked the Minister to review the 480GL/640GL rule that transfers control of Menindee Lakes to the Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) when storage is over 640GL. These discussions are ongoing.
