Fuel Chaos Grips the Nation

Fuel Chaos Grips the Nation

12 March 2026 - Author Stephen Gardiner

A wave of mild hysteria swept across the region this week as towns up and down the highway reported dwindling fuel supplies. Drivers were spotted forming queues longer than a Centrelink phone wait, clutching jerry cans like they were rare artefacts from a bygone civilisation. Rumours spread faster than a harvest fire: “No fuel by lunchtime!”, “Servo’s dry!”, “Someone filled a Hilux AND a boat—selfish bugger!”

Local councils issued calm, measured statements encouraging residents to “avoid panic buying,” which of course triggered even more panic buying. One town reportedly saw a man attempt to siphon petrol from his own lawnmower “just in case.”

But in the midst of the chaos, one community remained perfectly, serenely unfazed.

Burren Junction.

While the rest of the region scrambled, Burren locals simply shrugged, sipped their coffees, and carried on with their day. When asked how they were staying so calm during the crisis, one resident replied:

“Mate… Burren Junction ran out of petrol 15 years ago.”

Kamilaroi Highway set for major rehabilitation to boost safety and resilience

Kamilaroi Highway set for major rehabilitation to boost safety and resilience

Published: 3 March 2026 Released by: Minister for Roads

A vital stretch of the Kamilaroi Highway west of Burren Junction is set for significant rehabilitation, with the Minns Labor Government delivering long-term improvements to one of north-west NSW’s most important road corridors. From Tuesday, 3 March, work will begin on a full rehabilitation of a three-kilometre section between Walgett and Cryon, near the Goangra–Beanbri intersection, where the pavement has continued to deteriorate despite routine and heavy patching. Rather than temporary fixes, crews will carry out a full pavement rehabilitation to rebuild and restore the road surface, improving ride quality and strengthening the highway for the long term.

Why More NSW Households Are Choosing Craig Eveleigh Plumbing for Reliable and Affordable Service

Trusted Plumbing Solutions for Regional NSW Homes and Businesses

When it comes to keeping homes functional and comfortable, few things are as important as a well-maintained plumbing system. From fixing leaking taps to addressing serious drainage issues, a trustworthy plumber is an essential partner in every household. Across regional New South Wales, more residents are turning to Craig Eveleigh Plumbing for expert solutions—and it’s not hard to see why.

This article explores the rising demand for qualified plumbers in regional NSW, the reasons behind the trust in Craig Eveleigh Plumbing, and what to look for when choosing a local plumbing professional. We also take a closer look at the kinds of plumbing issues affecting rural and regional areas, and how homeowners can prepare for them.

The Plumbing Landscape in Regional NSW

Across towns and regional centres in New South Wales, access to essential trades such as plumbing can be more challenging than in metro areas. While city dwellers may have dozens of plumbing companies on call, regional communities often rely on a smaller number of local experts to get the job done. When these tradespeople are reliable, professional, and fairly priced, they quickly become known—and trusted—within their communities.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the demand for licensed plumbers across Australia is expected to grow steadily over the next five years, particularly in areas experiencing population growth and increased housing development. This includes parts of inland NSW and coastal towns alike. As local councils continue to invest in infrastructure and residential development, the role of local trades becomes even more vital.

This rising demand places even more importance on finding a reputable plumbing professional—one who not only understands the technical side of the job but also values community relationships and transparency.

What Sets Craig Eveleigh Plumbing Apart?

Craig Eveleigh Plumbing has become a go-to name in NSW for residents seeking fast, reliable, and fairly priced plumbing services. With years of experience serving both residential and commercial properties, the company has built a reputation based on workmanship, honesty, and local knowledge.

Unlike larger city-based plumbing companies, Craig Eveleigh Plumbing brings a down-to-earth approach to every job. Their team prides itself on clear communication, turning up on time, and leaving homes cleaner than when they arrived. Whether it’s fixing a blocked drain, installing new plumbing systems, or performing emergency repairs, their focus is always on getting the job done right—the first time.

For many local clients, trust is a major reason they keep coming back. In an era where some tradespeople overpromise and underdeliver, the transparency and consistency offered by this team have earned them glowing reviews and strong word-of-mouth referrals.

Common Plumbing Challenges in Regional Areas

Plumbing issues can happen anywhere, but regional environments present a few unique challenges that urban systems don’t always face. For instance:

  • Tree roots in pipes: In towns with older properties and mature landscaping, root intrusion is one of the most common causes of blocked drains and sewer lines.

  • Water pressure inconsistency: Some regional areas suffer from fluctuating water pressure, which can affect appliance performance and increase wear and tear on plumbing systems.

  • Ageing infrastructure: Many rural properties still rely on older plumbing infrastructure, including galvanised pipes or septic tanks, which may not meet modern standards.

  • Stormwater and drainage issues: During periods of heavy rainfall, poor drainage design can lead to flooding or water damage, particularly in homes built before current planning standards.

These issues aren’t just inconvenient—they can lead to serious property damage if left unaddressed. That’s why working with a plumber who understands the unique needs of regional properties is essential. Craig Eveleigh Plumbing’s deep knowledge of local conditions enables them to offer tailored advice and long-term solutions.

How Preventative Plumbing May Save You Thousands

One of the smartest ways to reduce plumbing costs is to adopt a preventative approach. Regular maintenance, even if nothing appears to be wrong, may reduce the likelihood of expensive repairs down the line.

For example, scheduling a yearly inspection of your hot water system, stormwater drains, and pipe connections can help detect hidden leaks or wear before they turn into major issues. Replacing ageing tap washers or pipe joints before they fail may also help conserve water and reduce utility bills.

With climate extremes becoming more common across Australia, ensuring that your plumbing is ready for both drought and heavy rainfall is another important reason to act early.

Supporting Local Businesses Strengthens Your Community

Beyond the technical advantages, hiring a local plumber like Craig Eveleigh Plumbing is also a way of supporting your own community. Every dollar spent with a local tradesperson helps keep money circulating in the regional economy, supports apprenticeships and jobs, and builds stronger, more resilient towns.

A strong local economy benefits everyone—from schools and sports clubs to community events and emergency services. By choosing locally owned and operated businesses, residents can contribute to long-term sustainability and independence.

What to Look for When Hiring a Plumber

Not all plumbing services are created equal. If you’re looking to hire a plumber in your area, here are a few things worth considering:

  • Licensing and Insurance: Always ensure the plumber holds the proper qualifications and insurance coverage.

  • Transparent Pricing: Look for clear pricing and no hidden fees. A good plumber will explain costs before beginning work.

  • Local Knowledge: Choose someone who understands regional plumbing systems and local council regulations.

  • Emergency Response: Plumbing issues don’t always happen during business hours. Ask whether after-hours or emergency service is available.

  • Community Reputation: Online reviews, local recommendations, and business longevity all provide insight into whether the plumber delivers as promised.

Craig Eveleigh Plumbing ticks all these boxes and more. Their focus on building long-term relationships—not just one-off jobs—means they approach every task with care and professionalism.

Final Thoughts

Finding a skilled, trustworthy plumber doesn’t need to be difficult. For homeowners across regional NSW, Craig Eveleigh Plumbing has become a name synonymous with quality and reliability. Whether you’re dealing with a burst pipe, planning a renovation, or just want peace of mind, engaging a local expert may save you time, money, and stress.
