Fuel Chaos Grips the Nation

Fuel Chaos Grips the Nation

12 March 2026 - Author Stephen Gardiner

A wave of mild hysteria swept across the region this week as towns up and down the highway reported dwindling fuel supplies. Drivers were spotted forming queues longer than a Centrelink phone wait, clutching jerry cans like they were rare artefacts from a bygone civilisation. Rumours spread faster than a harvest fire: “No fuel by lunchtime!”, “Servo’s dry!”, “Someone filled a Hilux AND a boat—selfish bugger!”

Local councils issued calm, measured statements encouraging residents to “avoid panic buying,” which of course triggered even more panic buying. One town reportedly saw a man attempt to siphon petrol from his own lawnmower “just in case.”

But in the midst of the chaos, one community remained perfectly, serenely unfazed.

Burren Junction.

While the rest of the region scrambled, Burren locals simply shrugged, sipped their coffees, and carried on with their day. When asked how they were staying so calm during the crisis, one resident replied:

“Mate… Burren Junction ran out of petrol 15 years ago.”

Kamilaroi Highway set for major rehabilitation to boost safety and resilience

Published: 3 March 2026 Released by: Minister for Roads

A vital stretch of the Kamilaroi Highway west of Burren Junction is set for significant rehabilitation, with the Minns Labor Government delivering long-term improvements to one of north-west NSW’s most important road corridors. From Tuesday, 3 March, work will begin on a full rehabilitation of a three-kilometre section between Walgett and Cryon, near the Goangra–Beanbri intersection, where the pavement has continued to deteriorate despite routine and heavy patching. Rather than temporary fixes, crews will carry out a full pavement rehabilitation to rebuild and restore the road surface, improving ride quality and strengthening the highway for the long term.

Garage Door Repairs Brisbane: Why GDC from Brisbane Is the Trusted Choice for Local Homeowners

Discover how professional garage door repairs can improve home safety, boost property value, and prevent costly emergencies across Brisbane suburbs.

A fully functional garage door is essential to the safety, convenience, and value of any Brisbane home. Whether you use your garage for vehicle storage, as a workshop, or as an alternative entrance, a malfunction can quickly become a major inconvenience—or even a security risk. This is why local homeowners consistently turn to GDC from Brisbane for fast, reliable, and expert garage door repairs in Brisbane.

In this article, we’ll cover:

  • Why garage door maintenance matters

  • Common signs your door may need repairs

  • Benefits of professional servicing

  • What sets GDC from Brisbane apart

  • Tips to prevent costly repairs

  • Local resources for Brisbane homeowners

Why Garage Door Repairs Matter More Than You Think

Most garage doors are used multiple times a day, meaning they endure significant wear and tear. From springs and cables to tracks and motors, each component plays a vital role in keeping the door safe and functional. When something goes wrong, it may not just be an inconvenience—it may compromise the safety of your family or the security of your home.

Garage door accidents can cause injuries or damage to vehicles and property. Regular maintenance may reduce the chance of emergency breakdowns and extend the lifespan of your door system.

Common Garage Door Problems in Brisbane Homes

Homeowners across Brisbane often face similar garage door issues, many of which start small but may lead to larger, more expensive problems if left unchecked:

1. Broken or Worn-Out Springs

Torsion and extension springs are under extreme tension. If they snap, the door may become heavy or suddenly drop. This is both a safety issue and a mechanical one.

2. Noisy Operation

Unusual grinding, squealing, or rattling noises may indicate issues with the rollers, tracks, or motor.

3. Unresponsive Remote or Motor

If your garage door opener isn’t responding, the motor or electronic system may need servicing or replacement.

4. Sagging or Uneven Doors

Over time, doors may become unbalanced or crooked due to cable wear or track misalignment.

5. Slow or Jerky Movement

This can be caused by lack of lubrication, track obstructions, or failing mechanical components.

The Importance of Professional Repairs

DIY solutions may seem appealing, but garage door systems involve tension-loaded components that may pose serious risks if handled incorrectly. Engaging a professional may help ensure:

  • Correct diagnosis of the issue

  • Safety during repair

  • Use of quality, compliant parts

  • Long-term performance and reliability

By choosing qualified technicians, you may also avoid voiding manufacturer warranties and ensure compliance with Australian safety standards.

How to Maintain Your Garage Door Between Services

While professional servicing is essential, homeowners can take some simple steps to reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns:

  • Visual Inspections: Check for fraying cables, rusted parts, or gaps in the tracks.

  • Lubrication: Lightly oil hinges, springs, and rollers to ensure smooth movement.

  • Test Balance: Disconnect the opener and lift the door manually. It should move smoothly and stay halfway when released.

  • Check Sensors: Ensure the auto-reverse function is working by placing an object under the door while it closes.

Brisbane Homeowners: Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late

Minor garage door issues can quickly escalate into major repair jobs. Whether your door is stuck, noisy, or just doesn’t feel “right,” it may be best to book an inspection before the problem worsens.
